As networks become more and more complex (tighter channel spacing, mesh and ROADM-based, polarization multiplexed signals, etc.), the number of potential causes for failure increases, making it extremely difficult to identify the issue for a given failure. This presentation will explore the different impairments and challenges faced when measuring parameters such as OSNR in complex networks.
