ABSTRACT - Raman spectroscopy is one of the most important tools used in different fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, pharmacy etc. We have been developing a robust low-cost VIS-NIR Raman spectrometer useful for different applications with a special emphasis on pharmaceutical industry. For that purpose, the laser of 532nm and/or 785nm have been chosen as an excitation source. The crossed Czerny-Turner optical bench has been selected to optimize the configuration geometry of the proposed Raman spectrometer. Finally, to detect the Raman spectrum, the TCD1304AP Toshiba charge-coupled device (CCD) has been used. The concept of the spectrometer is designed to allow user to easily change the laser source and to use the spectrometer for in-line, on-line and at-line measurements. The Raman spectrometer has been tested with different samples including proteins and lipids and the obtained results show a good comparison with those obtained with Kaiser Raman Rxn2 with bio-pro Raman probe as well as with Ocean optics USB4000 spectrometer.
