Latest Experimental Results on the Photonics for 5G and Beyond

This article covers the latest experimental related to photonics and 5G. Target objectives for 5G are peak data rates more than 50 Gbps (mobile 5 GHz), latency less than 1 ms, and connectivity everywhere at least at 1 Gbps. Main issues in 5G are: how to develop low-cost wireless transceivers, operating at milimeter-wave frquencies, how to build steerable antennas, operating at mm-waves, how to achive ultra-high capacity wireless transmission, enabling data rates well above 50 Gbps for beyond 5G generations, and how to develop heterogeneous wireless systems supporting 3G, 4G and 5G simultaneously.
